Seven Lessons I Learned from the Superbowl Champion New York Giants
By Jill on Feb 5, 2008 in Featured, Goal Setting
If you watched the Superbowl this past Sunday, then you
witnessed a great match between fierce competitors, the New
England Patriots and the New York Giants.
Sports are big business these days and if you break it down
and take a closer look, success on the field parallels
success in life, in business and in every area.
The Seven Ingredients Required to Win Like a Champion
1. The Right Team. Each team has a unit who’s sole purpose
is to recruit players with the right talent, physical
ability, mindset, attitude and experience. Finding great
talent is one aspect and selecting individuals who can work
as a team is critical. It can take years to assemble a team
that will work and play together to reach Championship
levels.
2. The Right Game Plan. The right preparation in advance
can make all the difference in the world. The coaching
staff watches endless video footage of the competition in
order to minimize their opponents strengths and capitalize
on the weaknesses. The plays have been chosen long before
the players step onto the field on game day. Each player
knows what the plan is and is clear on their role.
3. Conditioning. Not only do the athletes need to be in
top physical condition individually, they also need to
condition themselves to the game plan and the team unit by
practicing each play together over and over. An athlete who
has run a play hundreds of times in practice, knows he can
do it again in the clutch moments of a big game.
4. Focus. At any given time, a dropped ball or a missed
tackle can open a game wide open and change the momentum.
Champions keep their focus for the entire duration of the
game until the last tick of the clock. Did you see David
Tyree catch the ball holding it against his helmet with an
offender wrapped around him? That’s 100% concentration.
5. Tenacity. In the last few seconds of the fourth quarter,
as the Patriots were high fiving each other thinking they
had won the game, the Giants were digging in, preparing for
the final march towards victory. They refused to give up.
6. Belief. The Giants believed they could win, despite the
tremendous odds against them, They were facing a dominant
team who went undefeated the entire season but they still
believed they could win.
7. Having a Great Coach. Great Coaches have a birds eye
perspective of the field. They can spot patterns that aren’t
working and make adjustments to the game plan. They ensure
that the previous six ingredients are activated so that the
team performs as one cohesive unit. They manage the clock,
they direct the actions in the direction they want to go.
Those are the ingredients that create a Champion.
Think about that whenever you feel like the underdog,
whenever you fall behind or feel discouraged.
There is a Champion inside you, if you believe.

Nice post.
I have scored on this post. When all things jell together then you can win. You do not need a team full of superstars, they just get in the way.
