How to Shortcut Your Progress by as Much as 1700 %

I want to share with you one of my little secrets to success that you can tap into to advance your Goals much, much, much more quickly. I estimate that I have shaved years off the time it could have taken to achieve some of my Goals because I unleashed this powerful strategy.

It is called modeling.

Modeling is picking someone whom you esteem highly in a given thing, someone whos character and results you admire and respect, you study them, their habits, their practices, their actions and then you put into action the very best of those positive traits on your own endeavors, into your own life.

I am so skilled at this because I have been practicing this my entire life, even before I knew what modeling was. There were people I admired and gravitated towards in life because I loved being around them and their positive qualities rubbed off on me. As a kid, my models were teachers, athletic coaches, and so on. I avoided a lot of mistakes because I had the examples of my models to guide me.

For whatever reason I have always been a great observer. I have always had a keen sense of awareness, especially for extracting the positive out of anything. I could find lessons to serve me for the better in any situation, especially challenges. So identifying and observing a positive role model was a natural thing to do.

For every major Goal I set, I choose outstanding examples that relate to what I want to achieve and then I study them, sort out the best traits, habits and practices and model them in my own endeavors.

Here is one current example of how I model success. I originally started this blog as a way to archive my newsletter articles. I quickly learned that I could serve people even better if I made some adjustments and refocused my efforts.

So I created a bigger vision for my blog.

In fact, one of my Goals for this year is to maximize my blog. However, besides great content, which I have under control because that is easy and natural to share my tips, strategies and insights, I realized that it takes so much more to increase traffic, build relationships and grow your readership. One of my long term Goals is for this blog to become the #1 Goal Setting blog in the world.

So since I already have incredible quality of content, my limiting step is all about increasing the traffic and exposure so that more people can advance their own Goals through the daily immersion of applying these strategies for focus, action, mindset, and so on. If you study something every day and take consistent, persistent action on it, you will attract it, advance it forward and manifest it. So more people reading this blog will lead to more people improving the quality of their lives.

I can serve as a Goal Achieving model to everyone who reads this blog but in order to increase my readership into the millions and maximize the connections and relationships with those readers, I need to learn and model how other bloggers do this! It is a skill that I am committed to mastering.

So who am I modeling for this particular Goal?

Wendy Piersall of EmomsAtHome.com I’m not a mom, but I knew Wendy from a local group of phenomenal people and had the privilege of watching her start her blog from scratch and grow it into the success it has become and will continue to be.

Steve Pavlina of StevePavlina.com He is a veteran blogger of personal development and reading his blog not only feeds my quest for tips on blogging, but also my hunger for daily personal development.

Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net From what I gather, he is not only an awesome guy, but a man who is in my estimation, one of the absolute best bloggers in the world. He has been at his craft, creating and improving for years and serves as an example of long term persistence and consistency.

Bryan Clark of OneMansGoal.com Bryan is actually a baby in the blogging world. His blog is in it’s infancy, less than 3 months old, yet has experienced a virtual traffic explosion with thousands of incoming links, and is already one of the fastest growing blogs in the world. In fact, I think so highly of Bryan, I became a sponsor of his blog and will work with him to help him reach his Goals.

As you can see, I have two “veterans” (Steve and Darren) and one in between and one in it’s infancy. Whenever someone moves as quickly as Bryan, I model them because it shows you if they can do something that fast, you can do it too. If you can sort out the key strategic actions that caused their momentum and growth, model them. If you can model what sustains a success long term, model those traits too!

Let it all serve you.

Each of those examples I admire, respect and feel a synergy with on a deeper level. Are there other blogs out there that get more traffic, make more money and so on? Yes. But in order to stay plugged in consistently, and feel good, the people you model must resonate with you.

As I illustrate in The Time Commandments, the people you study and surround yourself with must be aligned with your values and mission.

What I do in this particular example of modeling, because it pertains to blogging, is … so very simple… I read their blogs! Every single day. And those small daily observations bring insight, inspiration and clarity of what I need to do more of for my own blog.

The person you choose to model does not even have to know you are observing them or have chosen them as an example. Many of the people you model don’t even have to know who you are. Just keep studying successful people and the accumulation of what rubs off on you will serve you forever.

Every day is about doing one small thing to reach the next level. And the next day, one more, and the next day one more… and if you’re modeling the best and putting those nuggets into action, success is inevitable.

You can find a model for any area of your life. Parenting, relaxation, healthy love relationships, business, health and fitness, any hobby or skill that you can imagine, there are people you can effectively study and model.

So when you set a Goal, you should also pick at least 3 people to model in that area.

You should take daily action to study and observe them and this alone will shortcut the amount of time it takes for you to achieve it.

    Jill,

What an awesome goal! I have also practiced modeling for years…it is always better to learn from the success of others than going through the pain yourself.

When it comes to blogging and online business, I am fortunate to have two awesome sons (gregghawkins.com and glennhawkins.com) to learn from and emualate. They encouraged me to begin sharing my ideas online and have supported me tremendously with constructive criticism and ideas.

I watched your video about New Year’s Resolutions and absolutely enjoy your blog. I have bookmarked it and will read it daily. I find the content inspirational.

    Steve
